Spring Retreat at Lake Logan

August 28 - August 30

$450.00 – $550.00

Join us for a fantastic weekend of fibery goodness at Lake Logan in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.  Your stay and meals are all included.  You may select to share a room or get your own.  Cabins range from 1 bedroom to 7 bedrooms.  Each bedroom has a bathroom, except for 1.  Please let me know who you would like to room with if you chose to register online.  You can also register by calling the shop 828 633-2500

Check in will be on Friday August 28th from 3-5:30pm.  Pick up your name badge room assignments and Swag Bag!  After dinner, enjoy s’mores by the fire, spin, weave knit together in our group area in the Dining Hall, schedule a massage, or back to your cabin.  Your choice, because this weekend is all about you!

Saturday we will have some classes, demonstrations and the vendors will be open in the celebration Hall.

Sunday more of the same great things happening and we will check out around 3:00pm till we meet again…

Classes at the Spring Retreat

Crochet Brainwaves beanie with Jean Castle

You will receive a copy of the pattern and a list of the abbreviations and terms commonly used. Instead of 3 solid colors used in this picture, we will use a multicolored yarn with long color runs a small amount of a solid contrasting color(the white in the photo). The pattern uses a number of different crochet stitches and can be made in child or adult sizes. you will need a size I hook.  Yarn recommended, 1 skein of Universal Colorburst (DK Weight), and a contrasting solid color. Sunday 1-2.

Hand Dyed Yarn with Pat

Create your own custom colorway or let Pat guide you in the Retreat colorway, in this dye class.  1 undyed skein of yarn will be in your goodie bag and we will have more on hand for purchase if desired.  Sunday 10-11, Saturday 10-11.

Rigid Heddle Weaving with Meg

In this exploratory class, Meg will have her rigid heddle loom warped for you to practice your hand at weaving….. otherwise known as the “great stashbuster!” In addition, we will also be discussing the special warping techniques used in weaving with a palindrome yarn in order to get the maximum effect from yarns that are dyed  the same backward or forward. Bring your rigid heddle loom/heddle and a palindrome skein and we will have you warped in no time! We will also have palindrome skeins available for purchase at the retreat. Saturday 10-11.

Beginning Spinning with Julie

Do you ever wonder how yarn is made? Twist the fibers and you will make yarn.. Guaranteed!  Learn the basics of a spinning wheel (double treadle Lendrums wheels will be provided for you in class). Learn how to draft the fibers and allow the twisted fibers to slide through your fingers onto the spool. Learn how to change spools, spin more fiber onto a second spool and then ply the two spools of singles together. You will make yarn. You will learn how to measure your finished yarn on a NIddy Noddy. Take home your first homespun skein of yarn and enjoy. All you need to bring is patience and a smile.  Saturday 9-10, 1-2.

Finishing your Garment like a PRO with Crystal

Whether you’ve spent an hour or a month on a project you want your finished garment to look gorgeous, polished, and bespoke.  This quick class will teach you how to weave in ends to look smooth and seam up garment pieces invisibly. .  Saturday 11-12.

Stitches with Sandy

The Sampler Shawl has lots of great stitches, take this class and learn how to make this beautiful shawl.  Bring yarn and coordinating needles for this class. Long color runs are best. Sunday 9-10.

Chicks who Like Big Sticks with Amanda

Easy drop stitch cowl for anyone looking for a quick easy knit.  1 skein of Rasta, 1 US 17 24” needle. Saturday 4-5.

Hike & Knit  with Crystal

Bring what you are stitching on and hike some of the beautiful trails at Lake Logan.  We’re going to find a spot to sit and knit for a few minutes so it won’t be huffing and puffing!  Pack a water bottle in your knitting bag.  Saturday 3-4.

Pattern Reading 101 with Tammy

SSK, PM, K1 what does that mean?  Take this class with Tammy and figure it all out.  Bring yarn and coordinating needle for this fun insightful class.  Sunday 11-12

Trunk Shows

We are excited to have trunks shows with Emma’s Yarn, Baah Yarns, Trendsetter Yarns, Rowan, and Universal.
Vendors are Susan’s Fiber Shop, Hillcreek Fiber Studio, Bobbin Boy, Laura Jo, Friends & Fiberworks and Massage with Juliet.

Demos

Lots of demos will take place all weekend including but not limited to spinning, weaving, kumihimo braiding,  continuous weaving, sock machine knitters, machine knitting and dying.

Knit-a-Longs

Knit a longs will take place all weekend in the lodge.  April Showers with Ellen, yarn suggestion is a self striping such as Uneek Fingering, DK or Worsted.  Butterfly Papillon with Tammy, yarn suggestions is 2 Uneek Fingering and a contrast color. Bring a needle to match your yarn.
