Description: Learn to dye semi-solid or multicolor roving in a crock-pot.

Bring an old crock-pot that will never be used for food again. The best crock pots have a 4-6 quart capacity and have a removable ceramic ‘crock.’ You can usually find them at thrift stores. (Optional: rubber gloves).  Bring an old towel, newspapers to cover the table and a plastic bag to take your fiber or yarn home.

Silk and Shibori Dye Workshop with Vickie Bennett
Spend a day exploring dyeing techniques for silk fibers and fabrics with
permanent instant setting dyes. We will fold, scrunch, clamp, twist, resist,
squeeze and dip to create beautiful pre-hemmed silk scarves as well as yardage
for your own nuno felt projects. This is a highly rewarding workshop as
participants will end the day with 4-5 completed projects. Materials include
everything necessary to create 3 silk scarves and 1-2 additional items (silk
gift bags, eyeglass cases).

Instructor will have additional silk yardage and dye kits available for
purchase.

Hand-Paint your own Wool/Mohair/Alpaca Roving with Judi Jetson

There are so many ways to incorporate fabulous color into your spinning, but one of the most fun and intriguing is to hand-paint your own roving.  This beginner’s workshop will show you how to make your own custom-colored roving – taking you from start to finish including fiber soaking, making color choices, learning several application techniques, steaming and cooling.  4 oz of wool and mohair roving, all dyes and supplies are covered by the materials fee.  Students who would like to dye more can bring additional rovings (8oz or less, any color except black) or buy them at FFW.
